HRT is the abbreviation of Hormone Replacement Therapy. When women go through menopause, their body begins to slow its production of hormones. These female hormones are called oestrogen. Menopause is a considerable change in woman’s life and it is a significant sign of female’s physical maturity. It comes at the age of 15 years in females. HRT helps increasing the levels of female hormones which are affected by menopause.

The women of age about of 32 years, who do not take HRT, will get breast cancer by the time they reach 65. Long use of HRT makes womb lining thicker, which arises the risk of cancer. Using HRT for more than 5 years may increase the risk of ovarian cancer to some extent. Recent researches do not recommend HRT as a long term treatment. HRT has a number of benefits to menopausal women, though with long term use it can have some grave side effects too. These serious side effects have expected a lot of advertising recently.
